DIY Glittery Boots!

Happy Monday everyone!!! Autumn is here!!! Fall is my favorite season out of all. I just love the crispy sounding of dry leaves as I step on them. And that subtle color of auburn and orange just brightens up any gloomy day. Color is not the only thing I love about Fall, of course. What else? The boots obviously!!! After 6 months (spring+summer) of going barefooted (sandals and flip flops do feel bare to me), it's time to break out all the knee high boots and booties!!! A good pair of boots can last years and years. After wearing them for several seasons, wouldn't you want them to have a "bootie-lift"? When I came across this DIY, it hit me. I knew this is the perfect DIY to share.

I am extremely fascinated with the fashionable talents that Jill has displayed by creating multiple outfits with just a single clutch. It has been a crazy few weeks over here. Not only did we have to rush out the Mother's day orders two weeks ago, we also had to prepare for our new LINeage collection launch last Friday. I'm relieved that all orders during the Mother's Day week was delivered to our customers on time. As soon as that week was over, we had to sort through hundreds of images, and choose a few to go through the editing process. Even though only a few were chosen, we love all the images we took. It was the most tedious and eye straining work we've ever done, but it was the most rewarding. Easter Sunday is two weeks away. And Hop, a movie celebrating Easter by bring the Easter Bunny to life has grossed over $37 million in the box office in just one week! Equally amusing, is that this is the year of Rabbit according to the Chinese calendar. Occupying the 4th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Rabbit symbolizes such character traits as creativity, compassion, and sensitivity.

With all these bunny products (see the bunny napkins, candles, toothpick holder, ring and vase), I wonder if the designers were born in the year of Rabbit. They're certainly created by a bunch of creative minds.

I live in NYC and this winter, we've gotten quite a lot of snow. I tell you, the first few weeks of winter was beautiful. Just seeing everywhere covered with snow is an amusing sight. Even more amusing is the sound of snow especially, in the morning when you're the first one to step on them. The crunchy noise coming from your shoes as you lift them up and back down onto the snow sounds like a symphony. It's all wonderful and magical! And yet, I can't help looking forward to Spring.

You know why? It's because this morning, I saw this amazing colorful skinny narrow leg trouser in the Zara and the Jazz collection. I'm drooling over these pants so bad I can't even decide which color to get. I wish I could get the pants in all four colors so I can wear them four times a week. As soon as I saw the pants, I already knew how I would wear them. I would accessorize them with a white belt and this Audrey Blossom Robert le Heros handbag. This multi-colored handbag matches all the colors these pants come in so I don't need to change the handbag four times a week.
How would you accessorize these pants? I'd really love to know.

Stepping into 2011

Wow, can you believe 2010 year is going to be over in less than 24 hours? This year for me was the fastest year I had ever experienced. I remember the beginning of January and all of a sudden we are in December! I attribute this feeling to the many changes I experienced in my life, work and relationships. No matter how fast or slow this year was for you, I think now is definitely a good time to pat oneself on the back and luxuriate in this year’s victories, humbly identify and cherish lessons learned from failures and get inspired to realize one's dreams in 2011! So let’s leave 2010 with a bang and enter 2011 with all the faith, determination and strength we can muster.

The Perfect Gift

The holiday season is here, Christmas lights are up and shoppers are out in the malls and online looking for the best deals. If you are like me, you still have a lot of shopping left to be done and probably, you will still be shopping until Christmas Eve. Although it takes me some time to find the “perfect gift” for a family member or friend, in spite of that, I enjoy the experience even much more than shopping for myself. The thought of how happy my loved one will be when she receives that “perfect gift” melts my heart. I also enjoy shopping for a loved one because it gives me the opportunity to think of her in ways I usually don’t. Thoughts like what does the person need and what does the person like comes to mind. The “perfect gift” should address these two thoughts to some degree.

What does the person need - A need is a necessity fulfilling a missing value in one’s life. Buying gifts based on needs is typically the first instinct when shopping for a loved one. However, one needs to be careful because the recipient might prefer meeting her own needs instead of someone else assuming that responsibility. So even though you recognize a need in a loved one’s life, you might want to make sure that she’s comfortable with you satisfying her need before buying that gift. Try dropping hints and notice the person’s response; this will help you gauge her openness to the gift. Also keep in mind that while gifts addressing obvious needs might not be welcomed, gifts fulfilling obscure but accurately anticipated needs might be well-received with open arms and heart. So think critically about your loved one and see if you can anticipate a non obvious need. For example, have you noticed your sister’s black handbag is wearing out and she needs another one? A black handbag might be the “perfect gift” for the holidays.

What does the person like - By what a person likes, I am referring to an item that is not a necessity but your loved one has some or maybe, a strong preference for the item. For example, my baby sister needs a pair of pumps for work but she loves sketchers so instead of buying her pumps, I am getting her the sketchers. I am shying away from buying her what she needs because I am sure she’ll rather get the pumps for herself so I am getting a gift she would always love to receive.

Winter Bags

Winter is fast approaching, to brace for this season one’s clothing and accessories change from the bright-colored, shorter and skimpier ones in the summer to heavy sweaters and coats, longer thicker pants and boots in the winter. Although the transition starts out in fall with cold longer nights and shorter days, we don’t fully experience these changes until winter when the nights are so freezing sometimes one forgets what it’s like to feel the sun on one’s skin. With all these weather changes, one question that comes to mind often is which handbags are good for the winter? While many factors influence ones decision in selecting the appropriate bag(s) for the winter, these are the most important ones -- the weather, color, size and your personality.

A key factor in choosing a winter bag is what your winter is like. The winter experienced by someone living in southern California is very different from what one will experience in Chicago. So while the west coast fashionista can still carry bags from the summer and fall collections in the winter, the average woman in Chicago is restricted to winter collections. A moisture repellant and water-resistant hand bag (see our previous blog on water-resistant bags) seems more appropriate for that person living in Chicago who is concerned with keeping her bag looking good after many raining and snowy days.

Most winter clothing tends to be dark or dull colors like black, brown or grey so we naturally choose matching accessories with similar colors. I think it’s worth venturing out a bit this winter by trying multi-colored bags with dark and light colors like these multi-colored totes. If you are edgier, you can try bolder colors like red, yellow or orange. It would definitely brighten up your short winter days.

Size matters a lot when it comes to winter bags --if you will be carrying many items like winter caps, neck scarves and umbrella back and forth because of the weather, then you need bigger totes instead of small hobos or clutch bags. This is when dual function bags help the most; for example, the bag can be used as a clutch during the summer and a tote in the winter. Yes, this happened to one of my friends; she’s been carrying hand sanitizers everywhere to avoid contracting the H1N1 virus -- I really don’t blame her. If you are like me or my friend, you've experienced these type of incidences too often than you would like. One moment of indiscretion, and your handbag might be ruined. Well, I found out that spills don’t have to be fatal; with a waterproof handbag one doesn’t have to worry about spills because you can just wipe them off.
